Note from the Modern Languages Department

We are very proud of our international profile and there is nothing more international than studying a foreign language. At IES, students learn and improve their French, German or Spanish. We strongly believe that learning a foreign language opens new doors and gives students the necessary skills to flourish in this global and competitive world. During this academic year we are building a department ensuring that all our students get a good start in the acquisition of a new language. All IES language teachers are native speakers and fully committed to ensuring the best education for our IES students.

These are some of the activities that are currently going on at IES Borås: All year 8/9 French, German and Spanish took part in the Språkolympiaden competition and they competed bravely against other schools in the whole country. This competition will take place every year and we will try our best to get to the finals. Year 8 and 9 Spanish students have been interchanging letters with a school in Spain (Instituto de Secundaria Virgen del Carmen, in Jaén, Southern Spain) and hopefully this link will mature into future enjoyable projects.Year 8 and 9 French students exchanged letters with IES in Göteborg and our German students are working hard with material and resources from the prestigious Goethe Institute.

We do not forget the enjoyment that acquiring a new language may bring. IES is organizing a Eurovision song contest and our school is taking part this year with a Spanish song. The final will take place in IES Gubbängen, the 27th of April. Let´s wish them good luck!
