Student Opportunities at IES Borås!

This term we have many opportunities for students to showcase their special talents. First, we are in the midst of an essay contest for our year 9 students. The students choose between two topics: The influence of TV on society or Do violent TV games lead to behavior problems?  The essays will be judged by our English teachers, Head of English, the Academic Coordinator and the Principal. Besides being recognized at the End of Term Ceremony, the winning students will also receive a gift certificate to purchase their favorite books.

Another opportunity our students have is to participate in the IES Charity Art Exhibition and Auction which will be held in Stockholm on May 5. Each IES school may send 3 pieces of art to be auctioned off and the proceeds will be split between the artist and the Swedish Tibetan Society which works to provide education for children in Tibet.

Some of our language students are preparing for Språkolympiaden held in February for French, German and Spanish students throughout the country. This is a language and culture competition that the students take on-line. The students answer 60 questions in only 40 minutes – Bon Chans!

Our students are also eagerly rehearsing for our annual Talent Show to be held on Thursday, April 26. Last year we had magic acts, musicians and dancers who amazed us with their talent!

Finally, we are looking forward to a track and field competition hosted by our sister school, Internationella Engelska Skolan Gothenburg. We will be sending 24 students for an all-day event held at  Åby Friidrott in Mölndal on May 31. Go IES Borås Bobcats!

STP's and Verbal Judo

This week we welcome all our parents to school to participate in Student-Teacher-Parent Conferences (STPs) which are held once per term. Almost all classes, with the exception of year 9, are becoming familiar with the new 2011 national curriculum. The STP forms which are available on SchoolSoft look different this year as each subject has detailed Knowledge Requirements. These requirements should help the students in understanding their strengths and in seeing how they can improve. Read more

Spirit Friday!

IES Borås first Spirit Friday for the year was held on Friday, October 7. Each Spirit Friday has a unique theme and this time it was “Colour!” To show their school and class spirit the students dressed as colorfully as they could and many decorated their classrooms as well. Even the lunch room hallway was decorated with flags made by some of our Junior School students. We also ate green and red apples for dessert! Read more

Age Quod Agis at IES Borås!

We have just finished our third week of the 2011/2012 school year and we are so pleased with our new students and teachers who have quickly embraced the ethos of IES. Age Quod Agis is our school motto which means “do well what you do.” We have chosen this motto to explain what we want to accomplish at IES Borås. Our three pillars of academic excellence, command of the English language and “tough love” focus on this principle that we should always strive to become better in what we are learning and how we are learning.
